Why Ride a 29er?
The reasons to go big when it comes to wheel size are well accepted these days:
· more momentum
· more stability
· more traction
Larger wheels roll over obstacles more easily due to decrease in approach angle and are less prone to sinking in soft material such as sand and mud. The longer contact patch increases cornering and straight line traction and 29er bikes offer taller riders a more "natural" frame geometry
Gary Fisher Mamba 29er (rrp £625)
The real question is why a Fisher 29er?
Well, Fisher have built more 29ers than anyone on else on earth and all that experience has been refined into the current line of Fisher 29ers. These amplify all the benefits of bigger wheels while making light of any drawbacks.
Fisher started producing 29" wheel bikes over eight years ago, when everyone else thought Gary (Mr Fisher himself) was nuts. It's not the first time that has happened but Gary stuck with it! Firstly because he loves the way a 29er rides and secondly, he knows why 26" wheels became the mountain bike standard because he was there.
Mountain bikes didn't adopt the 26" wheel size based on research in physics or structural engineering. Standard mountain bike wheels are 26" because that's what Gary and his band of friends found while scrounging through the junkyards and thrift stores of Marin Country as they were inventing the sport. The cruiser newspaper-boy bikes of the 40s and 50s that they were turning into mountain bikes came with 26" wheels and the mountain bike standard was set.

They're a blast.
